The function of our subconscious mind is to store and retain data, almost like a bank for your memory. Its ability to retain everything you have come across is not just indefinite, it is also in excellent and almost flawless detail.
The job of the subconscious mind is to make sure you respond exactly as you are programmed to do. It renders a pattern that is made to fit into your everyday life, for you to follow without even realising that you are, in fact, following it!
What’s interesting is that we don’t realise just how much or how well we can control or train this part of our being. It is the ultimate tool in our belt, the answer to every result your heart has desired.
How? Here’s some real gold: your paradigms or belief system is the mass of information that has been collected drop by drop over the years and programmed into your subconscious mind. This information or the paradigm is articulated in your behaviour and the patterns you find yourself drawing over life, eventually shaping the results that you acquire. For instance: do you find yourself attracted to the same type of person repeatedly? Or take comfort in food when you are low? Or respond to someone you have known for years in the same way during a particular situation, say when you’re angry or stressed? Take any basic repetitive action out of your life, and observe it. You’ll notice a pattern, and when you explore it further, you’ll find a link to something that was buried in your subconscious knew all along.
The beauty that comes from digesting this little nugget of information is simply this: you have the ability to change your paradigms from negative to positive, and can therefore take direct action to achieve the results you truly desire. This is where affirmations come in. The reason why affirmations are so necessary and powerful are because you can reprogramme your entire system by adding these positive and success-oriented avowals.
Your subconscious mind is meant to obey your conscious mind. By focusing on uplifting and positive ideals, your subconscious will begin to implement a positive or ‘can do’ attitude in your thinking, and eventually your actions. You have to plant the right beliefs and weed out the damaging ones through the consistency that your subconscious mind ensures you exercise. It’s how comfort zones work: your subconscious has memorized the path you think, act and react in, and it works to keep you in them so you can free up your conscious mind for things that might require your immediate attention. So imagine what could happen if you can train your subconscious, simply by the power of repetition, to ensure that sticking to your purpose is the comfort zone you should be in.
It’s why we say that it is good to get uncomfortable. Your subconscious is pulling you back to the old and familiar when you try to embrace a new workout regime, or take on a new diet, or even try to meet more people. Even thinking about doing these new things will make you feel a bit uneasy. However, once you have purposefully adapted to these habits, your subconscious will adapt to the new comfort zones, as will you.
So, align your conscious with your subconscious mind – the more in tune you are with the latter, the closer you come to manifesting your desired reality. Results are, but the manifestation of the image that is held in your subconscious mind.
